Solarworld Energy Solutions has been awarded a commercial order by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd for deploying a 200 MW 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System in Gujarat. The agreement, structured as a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement, follows a Letter of Intent dated May 28, 2025, under Phase VI of the tariff-based competitive bidding programme.

The project aims to provide on-demand storage capacity to support renewable integration and grid management. The award aligns with Gujarat’s plan to expand BESS installations to manage intermittency from solar and wind, as the state accelerates its renewable capacity addition.

For Solarworld, the order reinforces its positioning in the large-scale energy storage market. The company gains an extended execution pipeline as the project will be delivered over a 12-year period, improving revenue predictability. The BESS deployment is expected to enhance operational efficiency and broaden the company’s EPC and storage solutions portfolio.

The broader market context reflects rising procurement of storage assets by state utilities as distribution companies work toward enhancing system reliability. Recent tenders indicate growing demand for standalone and hybrid BESS infrastructure driven by policy support and falling storage costs.

The order value of approximately ₹806.40 crore, excluding taxes, will be recognized over the long tenure of the agreement. Management commentary indicates that the contract is commercially structured for on-demand usage, offering flexibility in dispatch and availability obligations.

Investors will watch for execution milestones, commissioning timelines, and follow-on storage opportunities as state utilities scale up BESS procurement under future bidding phases.
