Vedanta Limited reported its consolidated Q4 performance alongside full-year FY results, delivering record annual financials but a mixed quarterly outcome relative to market expectations.

On a standalone quarterly basis, Vedanta reported net profit of ₹9,352 crore, rising 88.5% year-on-year and 19.8% sequentially. Revenue came in at ₹24,609 crore, up 47.5% YoY and 15.4% QoQ, while EBITDA stood at ₹7,559 crore, growing 44.1% YoY and 15.9% sequentially. EBITDA margins were reported at 30.7%, slightly lower than 31.4% in the same quarter last year but marginally higher than 30.6% in the previous quarter.

However, when compared with market expectations, the quarterly performance presented a divergence. While profit exceeded estimates of ₹8,150 crore, both revenue and EBITDA fell short of consensus projections. Margins also missed expectations, indicating that cost pressures or product mix may have affected profitability despite strong topline growth.

In contrast, the full-year performance paints a stronger picture. Vedanta reported record revenue of ₹1.74 lakh crore, reflecting a 15% year-on-year increase. EBITDA reached ₹55,976 crore, up 29% YoY, while profit after tax stood at ₹25,096 crore, growing 22%. The company highlighted these as its highest-ever annual financials, supported by improved operational efficiency and favourable commodity cycles across segments such as aluminium, zinc, and oil and gas.

Operational efficiency gains were visible in margin expansion at the annual level. EBITDA margins improved significantly, and return on capital employed (ROCE) rose to 32%, indicating stronger asset utilisation. Free cash flow before capex increased to ₹11,930 crore, up 53% year-on-year, supporting both capital expenditure and shareholder returns.

Balance sheet metrics also showed improvement. Net debt declined 12% sequentially to ₹53,254 crore, while the net debt-to-EBITDA ratio improved to 0.95x from 1.22x a year earlier. This marks the company’s strongest leverage position in over three years, suggesting disciplined capital management and strong internal accruals.

The company declared a dividend of ₹11 per share for the quarter, taking the total dividend payout to ₹34 per share for the full year. Continued high dividend payouts remain a defining feature of Vedanta’s capital allocation strategy, supported by strong cash generation.

Management indicated that the company continues to invest in growth, with capital expenditure of ₹14,918 crore during the year. The planned demerger, expected to take effect from May 15, 2026, remains a key structural development that could unlock value across business verticals by creating independent entities focused on specific commodities.

Market Impact on India

Vedanta’s strong annual performance supports sentiment in the metals and mining sector, particularly amid improving commodity cycles. However, the quarterly miss on key operating metrics may introduce short-term volatility in stock performance.

Sector Impact

For the metals sector, the results highlight ongoing strength in cash flows and balance sheet repair. Companies with diversified commodity exposure and strong cost control are likely to outperform. At the same time, margin sensitivity remains high due to fluctuations in global commodity prices and input costs.

Bull vs Bear Scenario

The bullish case rests on record annual earnings, strong free cash flow, deleveraging, and potential value unlocking through the demerger. Continued high dividends also enhance investor appeal.

The bearish case focuses on quarterly inconsistencies and margin misses, which may indicate underlying cost pressures or weaker realisations in certain segments.

Risk Section

Key risks include volatility in global commodity prices, regulatory developments in mining operations, and execution risks related to the upcoming demerger. Any reversal in commodity cycles or increase in input costs could impact margins going forward.

Overall, Vedanta’s results reflect strong underlying business momentum at the annual level, but the quarterly performance suggests that near-term earnings quality may remain uneven, keeping investor sentiment balanced.

India's 2026 Monsoon : When the Rain Becomes a Risk

After two consecutive years of above-normal rainfall, India faces a significantly weaker 2026 southwest monsoon, with meteorological agencies forecasting rainfall at around 90% of the Long Period Average amid rising El Niño risks. A deficient monsoon could weigh on agricultural output, rural incomes, food inflation, and overall economic growth, while creating sector-specific winners and losers across the equity market.
