A 1.7 percent stake in Meesho changed hands through a block deal on Thursday, with SoftBank likely to be the seller. Around 8 crore shares were sold at Rs 206.3 apiece, taking the transaction value to approximately Rs 1650.4 crore. The deal was executed at a 2.5 percent discount to Meesho's previous closing price of Rs 211.6.
The transaction follows reports that Japanese investment major SoftBank was looking to pare its stake in the e-commerce company through its investment vehicle SVF II Meerkat DE. SoftBank was initially expected to sell around 7 crore shares, equivalent to a 1.5 percent stake, for approximately Rs 1435 crore. The proposed transaction size was subsequently reported to have increased to around Rs 1634 crore.
SVF II Meerkat DE held an 8.60 percent stake in Meesho as of the June 2026 quarter, according to the company's shareholding pattern. Bank of America and JP Morgan were expected to act as bankers for the transaction.
Meesho shares had gained 3.14 percent on September 2 to close at Rs 211.6, valuing the company at just under Rs 97900 crore. Despite the block deal, the stock has gained 16.5 percent so far in 2026, significantly outperforming the Nifty 50, which has declined 8.5 percent over the same period.
The stake sale comes shortly after Meesho reported improved financial performance for the June quarter. The company's consolidated net loss narrowed to Rs 132.8 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 289.4 crore in the corresponding quarter a year earlier. Revenue from operations increased 48 percent year on year to Rs 3712.8 crore.
Meesho's EBITDA loss also narrowed to Rs 224.7 crore from Rs 264.4 crore a year earlier. Net Merchandise Value increased 34 percent year on year to Rs 11614 crore, supported by continued user growth and higher engagement on the platform.
The block transaction represents a significant secondary share sale by a major institutional investor and could remain a key factor for investors assessing Meesho's near term share price performance and shareholder ownership changes.
