SoftBank Group has booked a substantial gain on its investment in Lenskart by selling a 3.25% stake in the company through block deals worth ₹2,873.3 crore. The stake sale was executed by SoftBank affiliate SVF II Lightbulb (Cayman), which sold 5.65 crore shares at ₹508.55 per share.

Following the transaction, SoftBank's shareholding in Lenskart declined to 9.88% from 13.13%, according to exchange data. The sale represents a partial monetization of an investment that has emerged as one of SoftBank's most successful bets in India, generating an estimated return of around seven times its invested capital.

The block deal attracted significant interest from institutional investors. Buyers included global investment firms such as Fidelity and Goldman Sachs, along with domestic institutions including ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Kotak Mutual Fund, Mirae Asset Mutual Fund, HDFC Life Insurance, and other large investors.

The transaction was executed at a price of ₹508.55 per share, representing a discount to Lenskart's prevailing market price. Despite the sizeable stake sale, SoftBank continues to remain a significant shareholder in the company with nearly a 10% stake.

The sale comes after Lenskart's strong post-listing performance. The eyewear retailer reported a 46% year-on-year increase in revenue to ₹2,516 crore in the March 2026 quarter, although net profit declined due to higher expenses and continued investments in growth initiatives. The company remains one of India's leading omnichannel eyewear retailers with a growing domestic and international presence.

The partial exit also follows the expiry of lock-in restrictions for pre-IPO investors and reflects SoftBank's broader strategy of recycling capital from mature investments while retaining exposure to businesses with long-term growth potential.

India's 2026 Monsoon : When the Rain Becomes a Risk

After two consecutive years of above-normal rainfall, India faces a significantly weaker 2026 southwest monsoon, with meteorological agencies forecasting rainfall at around 90% of the Long Period Average amid rising El Niño risks. A deficient monsoon could weigh on agricultural output, rural incomes, food inflation, and overall economic growth, while creating sector-specific winners and losers across the equity market.
