Pine Labs said in an exchange filing on September 24 that it will make a strategic investment to deploy 10 lakh Soundboxes across India, aimed at strengthening the country's digital payments infrastructure.
The planned deployment comes as India's digital payments ecosystem continues to expand, with UPI and other digital payment methods gaining adoption across both established and emerging merchant segments. Pine Labs said the initiative is intended to increase UPI penetration in new markets and business segments.
B Amrish Rau, CEO of Pine Labs, said the company intends to reinvest in the digital payments ecosystem as new monetisation opportunities emerge. The company believes that sustainable economics and financial inclusion can support the broader adoption of digital payments.
Pine Labs Soundboxes are built on a cloud first architecture and provide merchants with real time audio confirmation of payment transactions. The platform also supports remote device management, over the air software updates and centralised monitoring, allowing merchants to manage and scale payment infrastructure as transaction volumes increase.
The planned deployment represents an expansion of Pine Labs' merchant payment infrastructure and is aimed at increasing the availability of digital payment acceptance tools across India.
Pine Labs shares were trading 4.07 percent lower at Rs 180.55 on the NSE at 1:28 pm on September 24.
