PB Fintech Limited reported a strong financial performance for the September quarter of FY27, with net profit rising 43 percent year-on-year to Rs 192 crore. The Gurugram-based company, which operates the Policybazaar insurance marketplace and Paisabazaar credit marketplace, also recorded a 35 percent increase in operating revenue to Rs 2,178 crore.
The growth was supported by strong demand across its insurance distribution business, particularly in new health and life insurance policies. The company's total gross premium increased 38 percent year-on-year to Rs 9,385 crore during the quarter.
Within its insurance business, the core online new protection segment recorded 42 percent year-on-year growth, while new health insurance business expanded 46 percent. The company also continued to strengthen its lending marketplace, with loan disbursements through Paisabazaar increasing 22 percent to Rs 4,739 crore.
The results come amid potential regulatory changes in India's insurance distribution industry. The insurance regulator is considering proposals to introduce caps on commissions earned by insurance brokers and distributors, which could affect PB Fintech's revenue growth and profitability.
Commenting on the potential regulatory impact during the post-results investor call, co-founder Yashish Dahiya indicated that the company would continue investing in growth while adopting a more disciplined approach to costs.
He stated that customer service would not be compromised even if regulatory restrictions on insurance commissions are introduced. The company would instead evaluate cost optimisation opportunities while maintaining its focus on business expansion.
Dahiya also indicated that PB Fintech does not intend to change its overall business strategy, noting that the proposed regulatory changes remain at the discussion stage. The company will look to accelerate growth in its non-insurance businesses, particularly Paisabazaar, to diversify its revenue streams.
The offline distribution business could also be evaluated for potential cost reductions if regulatory changes require adjustments to the company's operating structure.
PB Fintech continued to expand its insurance distribution network during the quarter. The company had approximately 5.5 lakh insurance advisors, adding around 1.3 lakh advisors during the September quarter.
These distributors play an important role in expanding insurance penetration across smaller cities and towns. According to the company, markets outside major urban centres contributed approximately 76 percent of its overall gross written premium during the quarter.
The continued expansion of its distribution network, combined with strong growth in health insurance, protection products and lending disbursements, highlights the company's ability to scale its financial services ecosystem. However, the potential introduction of insurance commission caps remains an important regulatory risk for its future growth and profitability.
