Nvidia is deepening its engagement with India’s fast evolving artificial intelligence landscape through a new collaboration with Activate, an early stage venture platform focused on technical founders. Announced at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the partnership aims to identify and nurture high potential AI entrepreneurs even before formal companies are established, marking a significant step in the chipmaker’s effort to embed itself at the foundation of the country’s innovation pipeline.
The collaboration integrates Nvidia’s global Inception startup programme with Activate’s “pre company” investment model, which supports founders at the idea stage. Unlike conventional venture capital that enters once a business structure and revenue plan exist, Activate works with research driven teams to transform technical concepts into scalable companies. By combining capital, mentorship and computing resources from day zero, the partnership seeks to accelerate the journey from concept to deployable AI products.
Under the arrangement, startups backed by Activate will gain access to Nvidia’s developer ecosystem, including software tools, training programmes, deployment support and high performance computing infrastructure. They will also be able to use the company’s open AI models and microservices designed to speed up application development and scaling. This early access to advanced infrastructure addresses one of the biggest constraints faced by AI entrepreneurs in emerging markets the high cost and complexity of computing resources required for experimentation and product building.
The initiative reflects Nvidia’s broader strategic repositioning. Traditionally known as a supplier of graphics processing units, the company is increasingly acting as a platform builder that shapes entire technology ecosystems. By nurturing startups that build directly on its hardware and software stack, Nvidia effectively seeds future demand for its products. This approach mirrors strategies previously used by major technology firms to lock in developer communities around proprietary platforms.
India has become a focal point for this ecosystem strategy. The country offers a large pool of engineering talent, rapidly expanding digital infrastructure and strong government backing for AI development through initiatives such as the IndiaAI Mission. At the same time, domestic venture funding is increasingly flowing into experimental stages rather than mature technology firms, creating an environment where infrastructure providers can play an influential role in shaping outcomes.
The partnership also highlights a shift in investor behaviour within the AI sector.
Funding is currently concentrated at the earliest stages as founders test use cases and build technical capabilities before pursuing aggressive monetisation. Investors are placing greater emphasis on proof of progress prototypes, technical validation and early customer feedback rather than near term revenue. This aligns with the reality that many AI applications require significant upfront development before commercial scaling becomes feasible.
For India’s technology ecosystem, the collaboration could help bridge a structural gap. While the country produces a large number of skilled engineers and researchers, access to world class computing infrastructure has historically been limited compared with the United States or China. By connecting local founders to global resources, the initiative may accelerate the development of application layer AI companies, an area where India is widely expected to generate substantial value.
From Nvidia’s perspective, the benefits are equally strategic. Ensuring that emerging startups design products on its platform creates long term customer relationships and strengthens its dominance in accelerated computing. As governments and enterprises ramp up AI adoption, companies built on Nvidia infrastructure are more likely to continue using it as they scale, reinforcing the firm’s market position.
