Shares of Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited (KOEL) rallied 20 percent on June 22 to hit the upper circuit and a record high after the company announced a significant order from HyperNext, a next-generation digital infrastructure company focused on hyperscale and AI-enabled data centers. The sharp move was also supported by a positive brokerage upgrade from JM Financial.

The order comprises 192 MW of power generation capacity through 96 units of KOEL's 2500 kVA Optiprime Dual Core power systems. The deployment will support HyperNext's large-scale data center infrastructure designed to cater to growing demand from cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and mission-critical enterprise applications. The project is among the largest high-capacity standby power deployments for data centers in India.

Market participants viewed the order as a strategic milestone for KOEL, marking its successful entry into the data center power solutions segment, a market traditionally dominated by global players. Analysts believe the win strengthens the company's position in mission-critical power infrastructure and could open opportunities for additional large-scale orders as India's AI and data center ecosystem expands.

The order also aligns with the growing investment cycle in digital infrastructure, where rising AI adoption and cloud computing requirements are driving demand for reliable backup power solutions. KOEL's Optiprime platform is specifically designed for hyperscale and mission-critical environments, offering high power density, operational efficiency, and reliability.

Following the development, JM Financial reportedly increased its target price for the stock, citing the order as evidence of KOEL's ability to capture a larger share of the fast-growing data center infrastructure market. The brokerage's optimism contributed to strong buying interest, pushing the stock to its upper circuit limit.
