Indian Crypto Exchanges Expand Into Tokenised US Stocks Through Real World Assets

Indian cryptocurrency exchanges are expanding beyond digital assets and entering the rapidly growing real-world asset (RWA) segment by offering tokenised US equities to investors. The initiative allows users to gain exposure to leading US-listed companies through blockchain-based tokens that represent ownership or economic rights linked to underlying shares.
Tokenisation involves converting ownership interests in traditional financial assets into digital tokens that can be traded on blockchain networks. By fractionalising assets, tokenisation lowers investment barriers and enables retail investors to access global markets with relatively small amounts of capital.
Industry participants believe tokenised US stocks could help bridge the gap between traditional finance and digital assets, providing Indian investors with easier access to international investment opportunities. The products are being positioned as a way to diversify portfolios beyond domestic equities and cryptocurrencies.
The development comes amid strong global growth in the tokenised real-world asset market. Industry estimates indicate that the market has expanded from approximately $1 billion in early 2024 to more than $10 billion currently, covering a range of assets including equities, exchange-traded funds, commodities, and fixed-income instruments.
Crypto exchanges view RWAs as a significant growth avenue as regulatory scrutiny and market volatility continue to shape the digital asset industry. By linking blockchain infrastructure with traditional financial instruments, exchanges aim to attract a broader investor base and create new revenue streams.
However, the segment remains at an early stage in India, with regulatory clarity, investor awareness, custody mechanisms, and compliance frameworks expected to play a crucial role in determining the pace of adoption. Market participants believe the evolution of tokenised assets could gradually reshape how investors access and trade global financial products.
