Hyundai Motor India Ltd reported a 23.9 percent year on year decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,196 crore for the quarter ended September 2026, compared with Rs 1,572 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. The decline came despite double digit revenue growth, as weaker operating performance and margin contraction weighed on profitability.
Revenue from operations increased 18.5 percent year on year to Rs 20,696 crore from Rs 17,461 crore in the year ago quarter. However, the company's performance fell short of analyst expectations. A CNBC TV18 poll had estimated quarterly revenue of Rs 20,789 crore and net profit of Rs 1,263 crore.
Operating profitability weakened during the quarter, with earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation declining 18.7 percent year on year to Rs 1,974.5 crore from Rs 2,429 crore. The EBITDA margin contracted by 440 basis points to 9.5 percent, compared with 13.9 percent in the corresponding quarter last year.
The sharp decline in operating earnings and margins indicates that revenue growth did not translate into improved profitability during the quarter. With both net profit and revenue missing analyst estimates, investors may focus on the company's ability to restore margins and sustain earnings growth in the coming quarters.
