Shares of Ather Energy rose more than 5 percent in early trade on August 28 after around 1.19 crore shares, representing about a 3 percent equity stake, changed hands in a block deal worth approximately Rs 1758 crore.
The shares were sold at Rs 1480 apiece, representing a 1.02 percent discount to Ather Energys previous closing price. The transaction took place a day after Hero MotoCorp announced plans to acquire additional shares in Ather Energy from an existing shareholder through a cash transaction.
Hero MotoCorp said on August 27 that it would invest up to Rs 1758 crore to increase its stake in Ather. The company did not disclose the identity of the seller. Following the transaction, Hero MotoCorps fully diluted shareholding in Ather is expected to rise to about 32.8 percent from 29.88 percent as of August 25. The acquisition is expected to be completed by September 3.
Ather Energy shares were trading at around Rs 1577 in early trade, up 5.5 percent from the previous close. The stock has more than doubled in 2026, gaining about 108 percent so far, while the Nifty 50 has declined around 7.9 percent over the same period. At the prevailing market price, Ather Energy has a market capitalisation of more than Rs 62000 crore.
Hero MotoCorp is already Ather Energys largest shareholder. The latest stake purchase also follows a separate preferential issue through which Ather recently allotted convertible warrants worth Rs 960 crore to Hero MotoCorp.
Ather Energy has reported improving financial performance amid strong demand for its electric scooters, including the Rizta. The company reported a sharply narrower loss for the June quarter, supported by demand for its family oriented electric scooter.
Ather Energy recorded turnover of Rs 3671.76 crore in FY26, compared with Rs 2255 crore in FY25 and Rs 1753.8 crore in FY24. The company designs, manufactures, sells and services electric two wheelers and operates its own charging infrastructure.
The latest transaction strengthens Hero MotoCorps strategic position in Ather Energy and comes as the electric two wheeler maker continues to expand its presence in Indias growing electric mobility market.
