Swiggy Customer Complains of 80 Percent Price Hike Compared to Restaurant Bill

Coimbatore Swiggy user reports 80 percent higher bill on food delivery vs restaurant raising debate on platform commissions and hidden costs of convenience.

A Coimbatore-based Swiggy customer has sparked social media debate after highlighting a steep price difference between online and offline food orders. The user, Sunder (@SunderjiJB), revealed that his Swiggy bill of Rs 1,473 for a meal was nearly 80 percent higher than the restaurant’s direct bill of Rs 810 for the same items.

Sharing the detailed comparison on X, Sunder questioned whether the high costs reflect the true price of convenience provided by food delivery platforms. The post has reignited discussions about platform commissions, restaurant markups, and the economics of last-mile delivery in India’s food delivery sector.

Industry experts say such cases highlight growing consumer concerns around transparency and the sustainability of app-based food delivery services, as well as the potential need for clearer pricing structures.
