Market outlook for 26 October 2026
Sensex, Nifty Extend Weekly Losses as Rising Crude, Middle East Tensions and Weak Global Cues Weigh on Sentiment

Market Wrap
Indian equity markets enter the new week on a cautious note after another week of losses, with the Nifty 50 closing Friday at 22,600, down 0.39%, while the Sensex declined 0.17% to 73,123.83. Both benchmarks recorded weekly losses of approximately 2.4% and 2.2%, respectively, reflecting persistent selling pressure and weakening investor confidence. The correction was more pronounced in mid-cap and small-cap stocks, while banking, financial services, consumer durables, automobiles and energy stocks also faced significant pressure.
Rising crude oil prices amid escalating Middle East tensions remain a major concern for Indian markets. Sustained increases in energy costs could intensify inflationary pressures, weaken the rupee, widen India's import bill and compress corporate profit margins. Although domestic institutional buying may provide some support, continued foreign investor outflows remain a potential headwind for the broader market.
Global cues offered little relief, with US markets ending Friday lower. The Dow Jones declined 1.23%, the S&P 500 fell 0.52% and the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.21%, while European markets largely closed in negative territory. Concerns over elevated US bond yields and uncertainty surrounding AI-related spending further weakened risk appetite.
What's Ahead
The Nifty 50's immediate support zone lies at 22,500–22,400, while resistance is expected around 22,700–22,800. A sustained break below support could intensify selling pressure, whereas a recovery above resistance would indicate improving short-term sentiment. Until either zone is decisively breached, markets may remain volatile and susceptible to sharp intraday swings.
The immediate focus will be on Brent crude prices, Middle East developments, the rupee, FII activity and September-quarter earnings. Tata Consumer Products, Paytm, Mankind Pharma and REC are scheduled to report results on Monday, followed by a busier earnings calendar on Tuesday featuring Larsen & Toubro, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto, Cipla and Tata Steel. Investors will assess revenue growth, margins and management commentary for signals about demand conditions and the impact of higher input costs.

Technical Outlook
Nifty 50
The NIFTY 50 declined 87.65 points, or 0.39%, to close at 22,600.00, as selling in metal, financial and automobile stocks outweighed gains in select heavyweight constituents. The index fluctuated between 22,372.00 and 22,787.25 before recovering from its intraday low, although market breadth remained weak, with 36 stocks declining against 14 advancing. The RSI moved towards 40, indicating continued weakness in momentum and a cautious near-term technical setup. Renewed Middle East tensions and rising crude oil prices are likely to keep sentiment fragile. Immediate support is placed at 22,365 and 22,220, while resistance stands at 22,835 and 22,980. A sustained move above 22,835 could signal improving momentum, whereas a decisive break below 22,365 may expose the index to further downside.
BankNifty
The NIFTY BANK fell 638.35 points, or 1.16%, to close at 54,287.35, underperforming the broader market amid widespread selling across public-sector and private-sector banking stocks. The index opened marginally higher but came under sustained pressure, touching an intraday low of 53,942.35 before recovering slightly towards the close. Market breadth was decisively negative, with 13 constituents declining against just one advancing, while the RSI fell below 40, signalling strengthening bearish momentum. Immediate support levels are at 53,786 and 53,476, while resistance is positioned at 54,788 and 55,098. A sustained recovery above 54,788 would be necessary to ease near-term pressure, while a break below 53,786 could trigger further weakness.
NIFTY FINANCIAL SERVICES
The NIFTY Financial Services index declined 254.70 points, or 1.03%, to close at 24,403.00, as persistent weakness in non-banking financial companies and lending stocks weighed on performance. Chola Finance, Shriram Finance, SBI Cards and Power Finance Corporation were among the major laggards, while only one constituent advanced against 19 declining, highlighting the breadth of selling pressure. The index's near-term technical setup remains weak as selling extends across multiple financial segments. Immediate support is placed at 24,117 and 23,940, while resistance stands at 24,689 and 24,866. Holding above 24,117 could help stabilise the index, but a decisive break below this level would increase the risk of further downside. A sustained move above 24,689 would be needed to indicate meaningful improvement in momentum.
Sensex
The BSE SENSEX declined 125.56 points, or 0.17%, to close at 73,123.83, as losses in metal, infrastructure and select financial stocks offset gains in information technology and consumer-related heavyweights. Tata Steel and Adani Ports led the declines, while Eternal, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Industries and TCS provided some support. Market breadth remained negative, with 20 stocks declining against 10 advancing, indicating that underlying sentiment continued to be cautious despite the relatively modest headline fall. Immediate support is positioned at 72,293 and 71,778, while resistance levels stand at 73,955 and 74,469. Holding above 72,293 could allow the index to consolidate and attempt a recovery, whereas a decisive break below this level could intensify selling pressure. A sustained move above 73,955 would signal improving near-term strength.
