Ola Electric Enters Energy Storage Market with Launch of Ola Shakti
Ola Electric has announced its entry into the battery energy storage systems (BESS) market with Ola Shakti, a portable device designed to power home appliances, farm equipment, and business establishments. The move marks the company’s expansion beyond mobility into the broader clean energy ecosystem.
Bhavish Aggarwal-led Ola Electric on October 16 unveiled Ola Shakti, its first product in the battery energy storage systems (BESS) segment. The portable device can power air conditioners, refrigerators, water pumps, and other equipment across homes, farms, and small businesses, signaling Ola’s strategic move beyond electric mobility into the clean energy space.
Aggarwal emphasized the company’s vision: “We didn’t name the company Ola Auto; we named it Ola Electric. Our goal has always been to bring the entire energy storage supply chain to the market. Today, we are launching Ola Shakti, a last-mile grid-complementing solution offering power backup, solar storage, voltage stability, and power portability.”
Ola Shakti is available in four configurations—1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh—priced at Rs 29,999, Rs 55,999, Rs 1,19,999, and Rs 1,59,999 respectively for the first 10,000 units. Pre-bookings have begun at Rs 999, with deliveries expected by Makar Sankranti 2026.
The device integrates features such as instant power changeover, weatherproof IP67-rated batteries, and real-time monitoring via a connected app. Ola claims it can provide up to 1.5 hours of backup at full load. With this launch, the company expects annual BESS consumption to scale up to 5 GWh over the next few years.
Leveraging its existing gigafactory, 4680-cell technology, and nationwide store network, Ola Electric plans to scale in the BESS market without additional capital expenditure. Aggarwal noted that current service centres and networks will also support these energy storage solutions.
The initial product rollout is aimed at the business-to-consumer (B2C) segment, while a business-to-business (B2B) container grid solution is under development. “The home energy market is expected to grow, with applications in commercial and small business settings. The B2B product can be stacked up to 27 kWh and power a small community,” Aggarwal added.
