Nifty IT Index Extends Decline for Fourth Session Amid Global Technology Selloff
The Nifty IT index fell 1.8 percent on Monday, extending its losing streak to four consecutive sessions as investors booked profits following a strong rally in technology stocks. The decline was triggered by a broader global selloff in technology and artificial intelligence-related shares, with Wipro leading losses among major Indian IT companies.

The Nifty IT index declined 1.8 percent to 28,500 during Monday's trading session, marking its fourth consecutive day of losses as a global selloff in technology and artificial intelligence-linked stocks weighed on investor sentiment.
The latest decline has taken the index's cumulative loss to 8.4 percent over the past four trading sessions. The correction follows a strong rally in the sector, during which the Nifty IT index had gained nearly 8 percent in the preceding three sessions amid optimism surrounding artificial intelligence spending and robust earnings reported by global software companies.
Market participants attributed the weakness to profit-booking across technology stocks after a sharp run-up in valuations. The broader global technology sector also witnessed selling pressure as investors locked in gains in several AI-driven stocks that had delivered substantial returns in recent months.
Among individual stocks, Wipro emerged as the biggest loser within the Nifty 50 index, falling 5.5 percent to ₹187.4. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) declined 1.9 percent to ₹2,156.7, while Infosys dropped 1.3 percent. HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra also traded about 1 percent lower during the session.
The Nifty IT index was among the weakest-performing sectoral indices on the day, underperforming the broader market as the benchmark Nifty 50 index declined around 1 percent.
Despite the recent correction, analysts continue to monitor developments in global technology spending, artificial intelligence investments, and demand trends in key overseas markets, which remain important drivers for India's information technology sector.

India's 2026 Monsoon : When the Rain Becomes a Risk
After two consecutive years of above-normal rainfall, India faces a significantly weaker 2026 southwest monsoon, with meteorological agencies forecasting rainfall at around 90% of the Long Period Average amid rising El Niño risks. A deficient monsoon could weigh on agricultural output, rural incomes, food inflation, and overall economic growth, while creating sector-specific winners and losers across the equity market.
