Indian stock markets extended their losing streak on Tuesday, following the steepest single-day fall in over two months during the previous session. Investor sentiment remained cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s policy decision scheduled for Wednesday.
Adding to the uncertainty, the US administration has indicated plans to impose tariffs on rice imports from India, which further dampened market sentiment, especially across export-linked sectors.
At around 9:50 a.m., the BSE Sensex was trading 633.90 points, or 0.74 percent, lower at 84,468.79. The broader Nifty 50 also remained under pressure, slipping 211.25 points, or 0.81 percent, to 25,749.30.
Market participants remained on the sidelines amid global uncertainty around interest rate direction and concerns over escalating trade restrictions, which may impact India’s export outlook.
