India's economy remains resilient despite ongoing global headwinds, according to CareEdge's latest macroeconomic update, which cited strong domestic economic indicators alongside improving international sentiment. The report noted that India's policy measures, diversified energy sourcing, and healthy domestic demand have helped the economy withstand external shocks while maintaining growth momentum.
The update referred to remarks by Statistics Secretary Saurabh Garg, who stated that available economic indicators continue to point towards resilience in the Indian economy despite global challenges. It also cited Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran, who said India's calibrated policy response and targeted support measures enabled the economy to navigate the recent West Asia tensions effectively, although deeper structural challenges such as regulatory complexity, factor market integration, and workforce transition remain.
On the domestic front, industrial production expanded by 5.1 percent in May, improving from 4.9 percent in the previous month. The increase was supported by stronger electricity and gas output, while manufacturing activity continued to record healthy growth despite some moderation.
The report also highlighted improving global economic conditions. Japan's retail sales rose 5.3 percent year on year in May, significantly exceeding market expectations and accelerating from the revised growth recorded in the previous month. In Europe, the Eurozone Economic Sentiment Indicator improved for the second consecutive month to 95.0 in June, supported by easing geopolitical tensions and improving business confidence. Industrial confidence in the region also strengthened on the back of better production expectations.
CareEdge noted that improving global sentiment, combined with easing geopolitical risks and resilient domestic fundamentals, could provide additional support to India's economic outlook. The report also observed that major US equity indices ended higher on June 29, led by gains in technology stocks, while Brent crude oil settled at 73.15 dollars per barrel and gold prices declined.

India's 2026 Monsoon : When the Rain Becomes a Risk
After two consecutive years of above-normal rainfall, India faces a significantly weaker 2026 southwest monsoon, with meteorological agencies forecasting rainfall at around 90% of the Long Period Average amid rising El Niño risks. A deficient monsoon could weigh on agricultural output, rural incomes, food inflation, and overall economic growth, while creating sector-specific winners and losers across the equity market.
